Take Spanish lessons. Some countries don’t require citizens to speak the language. However, if you plan to become a citizen of Mexico, start studying Spanish. Persons who apply for citizenship must be able to speak the language.
Prepare for the citizenship test. Becoming a citizen of another country is relatively simple. Unfortunately, many people are unable to pass the written historical test. The moment you set foot in Mexico, start studying the country’s history. Mexican law doesn’t require extensive knowledge of the country’s history. However, each person who applies for citizenship must have basic knowledge.
Request your citizenship documents once you’ve learned the history and the language. Contact the Immigration and Naturalization office and request your documents.
Get a lawyer. Completing the citizenship paperwork can be tricky. It’s best to have an attorney by your side. She can guide you through the process. Hire an attorney who is familiar with Mexican immigration laws.
Submit your forms and fee to the immigration office after you’ve completed the application and the written portion of the process. They will review the paperwork and decide whether to grant citizenship. Unfortunately, responses can take up to 2 years.
