Who was the first person to explore Texas?

The earliest recorded European expedition into what is now Texas was led by the Spanish explorer Alonso Álvarez de Pineda in 1519. Pineda led his crew along the coastline that now belongs to South Texas and recorded its details from Galveston Island down to Padre Island at present-day South Padre Island.
