According to its website, there are 16 taxicab operators in the Las Vegas valley as of November 2010. The city's taxis levy an initial charge, called the "drop," once a passenger has entered. The drop rate is $3.30, and if passengers begin their trip at the airport, an additional $1.80 per trip is added to the taximeter. In addition to the drop, Las Vegas cab drivers charge $2.40 per mile, and 20 cents for each 1/12th of a mile traveled.
