Operating in conjunction with Alliance Redwoods, a Christian retreat and conference center, Sonoma Canopy Tours offers zip-lining eco-adventures to conference grounds guests and to the public. Sonoma Canopy Tours was started because Alliance Redwoods wanted to teach others about the importance of environmental preservation. The educational eco-tours allow visitors to learn about and experience first-hand the magnificent beauty that surrounds them in the California redwoods. In 2012 and 2013, Sonoma Canopy Tours received the Certificate of Excellence award from Trip Advisor.
The 2.5-hour zip-lining excursion offered by Sonoma Canopy Tours involves riding along a total of seven zip lines positioned safely above the tree canopy. In addition to zip-lining, visitors can walk across two sky bridges, rappel to the redwood forest floor, or descend the wooden spiral staircase. To see a redwood tree up close is an unforgettable sight, but viewing them in a panoramic setting along with other natural wonders of the area, including creeks and nature trails, is truly a rewarding experience.
Zip-lining tours are recommended for people who are in fairly good health and have moderate strength and mobility. Tour guests must be 10 years or older with a minimum weight of 70 pounds or a maximum weight of 250 pounds. Participants should wear comfortable clothing and shoes. Dresses, skirts and open-toed shoes are not allowed. Longer hair should be secured in a ponytail, and tour guests who wear glasses should secure them with a strap. All zip-lining and rappelling equipment is provided and secured by Sonoma Canopy Tours, including helmets with cameras.
Wine Country Balloons and Tours also operates out of Sonoma County and has more than 35 years experience giving safety-certified, hot-air balloon tours. Tours begin from a Sonoma County location chosen by the pilot and will include a champagne brunch, as well as views of the California redwoods, the Sonoma Valley vineyards, the Majestic Mountains, the Russian River and the Pacific Coast. Tours may last an hour or more, depending on the flying route and landing destination. Hot-air balloon flights are designed to carry not more than four to five passengers, and the relaxing experience is suitable for any age.
