The Three Faces on I-80 East of Iowa City: Amana Colonies Founders

Concrete Sculptures Honoring History

The three large faces visible on Interstate 80 east of Iowa City are the "Amana Colonies Faces".

They depict Christian Metz, Barbara Heinemann, and Michael Andreas—founders of the communal Amana Colonies. Created in 1962 by artist Elinor M. Barnett, they stand as a tribute to the colony's heritage.
