North Carolina Jazz Festival

The North Carolina Jazz Festival was founded in 1980 by Dr. Harry VanVelsor in Wilmington, North Carolina.The three-day event has featured names such as Kenny Davern, Dick Hyman, Art Hodes, Keter Betts, Wycliffe Gordon, Milt Hinton, Houston Person, Ed Polcer and Duke Heitger.
  1. General Information

    • Held over a weekend in February, the jazz festival is hosted by the Wilmington Hilton Riverside hotel. All evening concerts start at 7:30 p.m., with general-admission tickets ranging from $35 to $50. Military and student discounts are available.

    Thursday

    • The first night of the festival focuses on a special three-hour event. Some years, the night titled "Styles of Jazz" has featured Bucky Pizzarelli, Lynn Roberts, Wycliff Gordon, Jonathan Russell and the UNCW Saxtet, along with Joe Ascione, Arlen Strader, Bob Alberti, Nicki Parrott and Ed Polcer.

    Friday & Saturday

    • On Saturday morning a Patrons' Brunch is held, showcasing many of the featured musicians. The main event is held on Friday and Saturday evenings. It includes a four-hour concert featuring 15 all-star jazz musicians presented in seven sets, each led by a different musician.
