The Maui Ocean Center has plenty for the whole family to do together, or the children to do on their own. Children can participate in a scavenger hunt that will not only entertain, but educate. The hunt takes children all around the exhibition (except for the restaurants).
Field trips are also offered at the Center. This is a great way for parents to interact with their children in an entertaining and educational way, or if the parents are not interested, the field trips give parents a break from their children so that they can enjoy the more adult attractions, like the restaurants and sights.
The Atlantis Submarine Ride, offered by Atlantis Adventures, gives the whole family a chance to explore the ocean around Waikiki and Honolulu. Touting themselves as the number one tourist destination in the Hawaiian Islands, Atlantis Submarines dive more than 100 feet for over an hour and are narrated (in English, Chinese, Japanese or Korean) by a tour guide.
The Haleakala National Park on Maui Island offers families the chance to explore nature and visit the numerous volcanoes. Open all year long, the park is busiest in February, when visitors observe rare and endangered animal species as well as the natural beauty of the Kipahulu Valley. Also in the Valley are occasional cultural demonstrations. For the kids, the park offers horseback riding in a crater, hiking and swimming.
