    Eco-Adventurous Activities

    • Sea turtle in it's natural habitat

If eco-adventures are more your style, Jekyll Island offers that as well. One of the unique characteristics of Jekyll Island is it's connection with the Loggerhead turtles, a Federally designated threatened species, who make the Island and the surrounding water its home. Every May through August the female Loggerheads swim to the shores of Jekyll Island's Driftwood beach, dig nests in the sand and lay eggs. Visitors to the Island can walk on the beach under a moonlit sky and watch in wonder as this majestic creature works towards preserving its species. The Georgia Sea Turtle Center offers twice-nightly turtle walks during the summer months. In addition to the turtle walks, the center is open year-round and features educational programs on sea turtle conservation as well as tongue-in-cheek seasonal program such as "turtleween" and "sea-sons greetings." Hours of operation vary by season and advance reservations are suggested.
