Catawba Island is home to a public boat launch with access to West Harbor, and boaters often use the launch as a jump-off point to explore area islands and fishing beaches. Numerous charter companies offer full- and half-day fishing trips from Catawba; check current rates and packages with Sunshine Charters, Cadez Charters and 03 Fishing Charters. Lake Erie walleye, perch and smallmouth bass are among the area's catch.
Catawba Island State Park's 10 acres of land include swimming beaches, fishing areas, trails and picnic spots. Pets are allowed in the park, although not on swimming beaches. The park is open year-round, and in winter guests can go ice skating or ice fishing on Lake Erie.
This historic winery was built by Catawba Island Wine Company in the early 1870s and continues to produce champagne, burgundy and a variety of wines. Wine tastings and cellar tours can be arranged upon request, and anyone is welcome to stop by the winery restaurant and shop. Musical entertainment is available year-round on Friday, Saturday and Sunday evenings.
Miller Boat Line operates ferries from Catawba to the neighboring islands of South Bass and Middle Bass. South Bass Island is home to Put-in-Bay, a Lake Erie vacation spot with dozens of activities and attractions, such as an antique car museum, train tours, historic homes, two caves, South Bass Island Lighthouse, wildlife trails, mini golf and a gem-mining site. Middle Bass Island, on the other hand, is a quiet destination suitable for exploration by bicycle and a picnic lunch.
