Things to Do in Delaware, Ohio

Delaware is a city located near the center of Ohio, north of Columbus. College life is vibrant with Ohio Wesleyan University, a liberal arts college in town. Horse racing is a big feature with the annual Little Brown Jug competition. Numerous fairs and festivals line the streets during spring and summer months. Recreational activities are always present within this close knit community.
  1. Perkins Observatory

    • Ohio Wesleyan University is home to "The Perkins Observatory." The observatory is one of the oldest in the nation, and houses the "Perkins Telescope," once one of the world's largest telescopes. Through a large mirrored telescope, your eyes can view the earth's atmosphere and light up the sky. The exhibit area teaches facts about the universe and offers pictures of our solar system. Children can play in the large kids space with books and computer games. A gift shop with educational toys, telescopes, and books are available for purchase.

    Delaware County Cultural Arts Center

    • The Delaware County Cultural Arts Center is called "The Arts Castle" This old castle-size landmark offers a variety of classes, workshops, and performances for the arts. The building has nine studios, a gallery gift store, and open space for events. More than 80 classes and performances are offered throughout the year. They include dance, music and theater performances. You can create drawings, ceramics and metalworking pieces in small classes.

    Olentangy Indian Caverns

    • The Olentangy Indian Caverns offer visitors a look at Native American heritage. This cavern was formed millions of years ago, and was used by the Wyandotte. Artifacts found inside the cavern are on display. There are guided tours with 40 minutes of exciting stories. If you prefer to explore the cavern without a guide, you can listen to audio stations located in five different areas for more information on the exhibits. Additional activities are outside. There is an 18-hole miniature golf course. A playground, climbing wall, and horseshoe game make this a fun activity for the entire family.
