Things to Do in Port Canaveral, Florida

Port Canaveral is a 1.9 square mile beach community located off the eastern shore of Florida, 50 miles east of Orlando International Airport and 60 miles south of Daytona Beach. With mild winters and warm summers, the area offers an unlimited number of things to do in and around Port Canaveral.

    • Port Canaveral is the second most active cruise port in the world and the only deep-water port between Fort Lauderdale and Jacksonville. Set sail on one of the cruise lines that frequent the port, including Royal Caribbean, Disney, Carnival, Holland America and Norwegian Cruise.

    Identification

    • The Port Canaveral Cove is the central location for restaurants, dance clubs and bars. Fresh seafood is always available, so head to Grills Seafood Deck and Tiki Bar for a plate of Shrimp Jammers.

    Considerations

    • Visit the local oasis of Merritt Island National Wildlife Refuge. Merritt provides a protected habitat to more endangered species than any other refuge in the country. Highlights include the Atlantic loggerhead turtle and the southern bald eagle.

    Significance

    • Kennedy Space Center is a one hour drive from Port Canaveral. Wander through the Rocket Garden, where Apollo and Gemini-era rockets are on display.
