Activities in Port Canaveral, Florida

Port Canaveral is a major deep-water port in Brevard County, Florida. Dedicated in 1953, the port handles cruise, cargo and naval cargo traffic. The port serves as a base for cruises to the Bahamas, Mexico and destinations in the Caribbean operated by Carnival Cruise Lines, Disney Cruise Line, Norwegian Cruise Line and Royal Caribbean International. Port Canaveral is also home to a number of recreational opportunities for cruise passengers, area residents and visitors.
  1. Fishing

    • Jetty Park at Port Canaveral has a 1,200-foot, lighted fishing pier equipped with fish-cleaning tables. Fishing is also allowed at Freddie Patrick Park and Ports End Park. Fishing, as well as boating, is permitted 25 feet from any Canaveral Port Authority-owned and operated pier, wharf or dock, and 100 feet from any moored vessel at the port. Fishing is not allowed in the West Basin when cruise ships are present, and in the Trident Basin and close to the Middle Basin.

    Camping

    • Jetty Park is an oceanfront beach with 126 campsites, a children's playground, RV park and a fishing pier. Campers can also access an on-site store at the 40-acre park. As of April 2011, the park has the only beach in Brevard County staffed with year-round, full-time lifeguards. Campers can view cruise ships as they depart and arrive, and drive along the beach on four-wheel drive vehicles. Until mid-2011, the park was a popular spot to view Space Shuttle launches from nearby Cape Canaveral.

    Boating

    • Freddie Patrick Park and Rodney S. Ketcham Park at Cape Canaveral are equipped with picnic tables and boat-launch ramps. Boaters can use ramps at both parks for free. Rodney S. Ketcham Park also features an observation tower to view ships in the harbor. Four marinas within the harbor, and two along the nearby barge canal, provide wet and dry storage slips for boats and access to the Intracoastal Waterway and the Atlantic Ocean.

    Dining and Shopping

    • The Cove is a waterfront recreation area with restaurants, lounges and shops. It is also home to charter boats and a casino ship. Diners can sit at outdoor tables and watch cruise ships in the harbor, or enjoy karaoke and dancing. Live bands and DJs also perform at venues in The Cove. The Cove at Port Canaveral also hosts annual events, including boating races, fishing tournaments and Fourth of July fireworks.
