Sacramento, the capital of California, was founded in 1849 and has since become bigger and better with many activities for singles, couples and families alike. You will find plenty of activities whether you stay a day or longer. Whether you play sports outdoors or you prefer to shop indoors, you'll find several possibilities, including museums, golf, shopping, theme parks or ways to participate in outdoor nature activities.

  1. Museums

    • Many museums are scattered throughout Sacramento. Some themes include art, autos and military science. You'll fine more than 25 to browse through and enjoy. One museum that may get your heart racing is the California Automobile Museum. Their many cars on display include several Ford Model T's, a 1931 Chrysler CD Roadster, a 1979 Pontiac Firebird Trans Am and a 1972 Datsun Electric Car. In addition to cars, the museum has some bicycles, including an 1886 Velocipede. The museum has different exhibits to offer as much eye candy as possible.     Golf

    • If you have a passion for golf, Sacramento can offer you several good courses. It can make for a relaxing but active day on the greens. One layout, Teal Bend Golf Course, is a public 18-hole course spread over 250 acres. The championship layout, designed by Brad Bell and built in 1997, also has four sets of teeboxes. The USGA gave Teal Bend Golf Course a course rating of 71.7 with a slope of 129. Slope is a way to measure the difficulty of a course. The Teal Bend range is from 55 (lowest) to 155 (highest).

    • Whether you prefer bargain shopping or luxury, buying antiques or new items, you'll find a wide range of opportunities in Sacramento. If you are looking for a shopping experience, consider the 57th Street Antique Mall. They have over 70 vendors with a wide array of items to choose from in 10,000 square feet of space. Some of the businesses sell phonograph records, French and Asian imports, jewelry, rugs and toys. The mall was a 2010 KCRA 3 A-List Nominee for Best Antiques in the Sacramento area.

    Theme Parks

    • Whether you plan on going with friends or family, going to a theme park in Sacramento is a fun way to spend a day. Between the rides, food and overall experience, it can be a day to never forget. Funderland Children's Amusement Park is one of the several theme parks in Sacramento is . It is appropriate for children ages 2-12. Park admission is free, but you'll need to pay for ticket rides. Some of the rides include the Tea Cups, Carousel and Log Flume. The park's snack bar offers typical amusement park fare: corndogs, french fries, popcorn and snow cones, juice and water. Parents can save money by using coupons or buying a wristband.

    Outdoor Nature Activities

    • If getting close with the nature in Sacramento appeals to you, you have many options. Should you want to experience a variety of different animals, The Sacramento Zoo may be a good option with over 500 animals on 14.5 acres. The zoo, open since 1927, has over 140 species. Some animals you'll get to see include a snow leopard, a margay, a wallaby, zebra, axolotl, frogs, turtles, snakes, parrots and flamingos. The park offers three different overnight experiences where you and your child can sleep at the zoo, and classes for kids 3-5 where they can play games and get an up-close experience with one of the animals in addition to participating in games and crafts. There is never a shortage of things to experience.
