HOW MUCH OF THE ORIGINAL U.S. FOREST IS GONE?

The original U.S. forest covered an estimated 1.02 billion acres (414 million hectares). Today, only about 460 million acres (186 million hectares) of forest remain, or about 45% of the original total. This means that about 53% of the original U.S. forest has been lost.
