How many rain forests exist today?

There are two main types of rainforests worldwide: tropical rainforests and temperate rainforests. Tropical rainforests are found near the equator and are characterized by continuously warm temperatures and heavy rainfall. Temperate rainforests are found in cooler regions and have seasonal variations in temperature and rainfall.

According to the World Wildlife Fund (WWF), there are about 23 rainforests worldwide. Some of the largest and most well-known rainforests are:
