Places to Take Young Kids in St. Charles, Missouri

Saint Charles lies on the Missouri River, northwest of St. Louis, and is the place from which Lewis and Clark set out on their 1804 expedition to the Pacific. The city lies at the eastern end of the Katy Trail State Park and its Main Street riverfront area is popular with visitors. Whatever age your children are, there are plenty of activities to choose from to keep them active and amused.
  1. Lewis and Clark

    • The Lewis & Clark Boat House and Nature Center on the Missouri River at Bishop's Landing is an educational facility featuring a museum and exhibits relating to the Lewis and Clark expedition and the Missouri River ecosystem. Young visitors will enjoy the nature trail that winds through the grounds, where ducks, geese, herons, otters, raccoons and deer can often be spotted.

    Riverside Sweets

    • Kids can marvel at watching fudge and toffee get made at Riverside Sweets. Located at the riverfront on Main Street in the Historic District, the store regularly demonstrates its candy-making techniques to onlookers.

    Swing-A-Round

    • Adults and kids can enjoy indoor and outdoor activities at the Swing-A-Round Fun Town at St. Charles Amusement Park. Activities include mini golf, soft play tunnels and slides and batting cages.

    McNair Park

    • The City's Parks and Recreation Department oversees 15 parks and several water parks, and they also offer children's activities from line dancing to dog shows to modeling courses. McNair Park, for example, has plenty to keep young kids amused. It has an aquatic center, hiking and biking trails, courts and children's play areas.
