Places to Take Kids in New Jersey

If you are planning a trip to New Jersey with the kids, you will have no problems finding activities to keep the whole family entertained. From roller coasters to natural beauty, New Jersey has something special to offer everyone.

  1. Amusement Parks

    • Try a fun-filled day at one of New Jersey's high-energy amusement parks. There are plenty to choose from including Six Flags Great Adventure and Clementon Park with rides and entertainment suitable for all ages; Funtown Pier and Morey's Piers, which offer boardwalk-type parks on New Jersey's beaches; and for younger children consider visiting Storybook Land, Camden Children's Garden, or Wild West City.

    Water Parks

    • What better way to cool off and have fun than a water park? New Jersey has a large selection of water rides, slides and pools for you to enjoy. Six Flags Hurricane Harbor has a variety of water rides for all age groups as does Mountain Creek Waterpark. Rather play inside to keep out of the hot sun? Try Sahara Sam's Indoor Water Park where it is a beautiful 84 degrees year round.

    Aquariums & Zoos

    • If you like to be around water, but prefer to stay dry, New Jersey has several aquariums for you to visit. Adventure Aquarium has a 4D theater, numerous exhibits and touch pools. The Atlantic City Aquarium includes numerous animal exhibits and a nearby marina which offers boat tours. Visit the Marine Mammal Stranding Center which "is dedicated to the rescue and rehabilitation of stranded or otherwise stressed marine mammals and sea turtles," according to their Website. To visit and learn about land animals, plan to visit one of New Jersey's many zoos like Cape May County Zoo or Bergen County Zoological Park, or, for a very special experience, Lakota Wolf Preserve.

    Lighthouses

    • No visit to the East Coast would be complete without visiting some of the historic lighthouses that dot the coast. New Jersey has many beautiful and famous lighthouses that you can visit including Twin Lights, Hereford Lighthouse, Absecon Lighthouse and East Point Lighthouse.

    National Parks

    • To experience New Jersey's more natural side, a visit to one of national or state parks might be in order. At Pinelands National Reserve, visitors can hike, bike, canoe, camp and take tours in this 1.1 million acre park. The Great Falls of the Passaic River National Historic Park is about eight square miles and includes the Great Falls Historic District and an easy 1.5 mile hike to the 70 foot falls.

    Museums

    • No trip is complete without visiting the local museums. Liberty Science Center offers engaging hands-on science activities, experiments and learning opportunities for the whole family. If you like creepy-crawly things, try out Insectropolis. This museum offers a truly unique opportunity to "view thousands of beautiful and bizarre exotic insects from all over the world" as described on their Web page. If your family wants to marvel in the strange and unbelievable, plan a visit to Ripley's Believe It or Not Museum, a trip your family will not soon forget.
