New Jersey is a state located along the east coast. The many historic towns of the region has many reports of paranormal activity. Many of the locations are closed to the public and do not allow visitors on the property, but some are welcoming to visitors with many offering guided tours.
Cape May is a historic New Jersey city that lies along the southern coast of the state. The town is full of old Victorian style homes, many of which are said to be haunted. Visitors who wish to stay in a haunted bed and breakfast can choose the Queen's Hotel on Columbia Avenue. The structure has three floors, with the top floor reporting the most activity. It is said that the ghost of a young prostitute still roams around the third floor pushing guests and moving furniture. Guests report cold spots and the smell of perfume. Another haunted bed and breakfast in Cape May is the John F. Craig House, also on Columbia Avenue. There are reports of a red-haired girl in room four and a ghost named Lucy Johnson, who likes to replace guests' missing buttons, in room five. Spiaggi, located on Beach and Decator Streets,is a Cape May restaurant, reports the ghost of a baby named Gloria haunting the premises. The story goes that the baby died while in her crib. Some say she was murdered. Images of the baby appear in pictures taken in the early 1900s, and both customers and workers report feeling the baby's presence.
Burlington Prison Museum, located on High and Grant Street, Mount Holly, New Jersey. Was opened in 1811 and closed during 1965. The structure now operates as a museum and has many reports of haunted occurrences. During the time when the museum was renovating, workers experienced several unexplained happenings including loud noises, screams and voices. Some people see an apparition in the shower area of the prison, and strange happenings occur in the basement as well. Investigations of the museum brought forth such evidence as pictures of orbs and recordings of unexplained voices.
Combs Hollow Road, located in the Morris County, New Jersey town of Mendham, is supposed to be haunted by a young woman who was killed by a truck as she jogged along the side of the road. The man left the scene and killed himself later the same night. Some say he still patrols the area, and visitors who drive along the bridge around midnight are told to stop by his apparition.
Shelly Drive, in New Monmauth, New Jersey, is a road located in a housing subdivision. A British spy, named William Champlain, was shot by his own men during a battle. Some say that William Champlain's spirit is still roaming the area trying to find out why his own men shot at him. Visitors to the subdivision report hearing the ghost playing his beloved flute and seeing his ghost walking along Shelly Drive.
