Costa Rica Trails offers a 14-day adventure family package for two adults and two children, starting and finishing in Juan Santamaría International Airport in Costa Rica. Costing from $4,695 for the family in low season (from May through to June) as of February 2011, the package includes trips to tropical forests and volcanoes such as the Poás Volcano, hikes through national parks, walks on tree-top walkways and a visit to a beach frequented by leatherback turtles. The package includes hotel rooms, some meals, private transportation or car rental, tours and transportation to and from the airport.
A package vacation in Aulani Disney Resort in Oahu, Hawaii costs each member of the family from $1,225 as of February 2011. The price depends on season, but includes return flights from Los Angeles to Honolulu airport. The Aulani resort is specially-designed to cater to children and features all the favorite Disney characters. Kids can play in the waterpark and take part in activities; adults can take cooking lessons or learn to speak Hawaiian. The vacation lasts five nights.
For parents whose children are not averse to learning while on vacation, the Chaa Creek Eco Kids Rainforest Adventure in Belize costs $1,485 for adults, $480 for children aged 11 to 15 and $260 for children aged 6 to 11 (as of February 2011). Children hike through the jungle, take horseback rides, go on nature treasure hunts, visit temples, canoe downriver from the lodge and partake in traditional arts and crafts. Parents can relax in a spa or go on their own jungle hikes. The package lasts for five days and includes transfers, activities and cottage accommodations. International flights to and from Belize City International Airport are not included.
As an alternative to flying off to the sun, families can book a package holiday in the mountains so the kids can practice their skiing. Eagle Ridge Resort offers packages for families where kids stay, ski and eat free when a family books four or more days of accommodation and ski lifts. The offer applies to one child per adult; transport to and from the resort in the Lutsen Mountains in Minnesota is not included. The package costs from $474 per adult as of February 2011.
