Last-Minute Travel Options

If you have some extra vacation time that needs to be put to use before it expires, or if you just woke up and decided you needed to get away as soon as possible but have no idea where you are headed, there are several last-minute travel options for you to consider.
  1. Visit a City

    • If you are looking for a vacation destination where you can go at the drop of a dime, visit a neighboring city. Most cities offer plenty of activities you can enjoy, such as theater, music performances, fine dining, museums, parks and hotels equipped with swimming pools and spas. A city is a great place for overnight trips or a weekend getaway.

    Cruise Vacations

    • At the last minute, many cruise lines will dump unsold cabins at bargain prices. There are plenty of available cruise vacation options, such as Alaskan, Hawaiian and Caribbean cruises. Most cruises offer a 24-hour buffet bar, live entertainment, dancing, on-deck swimming pools, hot tubs, spas and even casinos.

    Camping

    • If you don't want to venture too far from home but want to stay clear of loud cities, take a weekend camping trip or visit a state park. Many state parks offer cabin rentals, areas to pitch tents and places to park your RV. There is plenty to do while camping out at the state park, including fishing, canoeing, hiking, bike riding, swimming, beaches, picnics and in some parks, horseback riding.

    Road Trip

    • If you have no idea where you want to go for your vacation, be spontaneous. Rent a car and start driving. Or for added adventure, randomly select a destination by writing various options on pieces of scrap paper. Toss the pieces of paper in a hat and, with your eyes closed, select one piece. Make that selected destination your vacation. Be creative with your destinations. For example, you can write on one paper "drop camping in New Mexico" and "New York City Broadway" on another.
