The Average Temperature in Western Mesopotamia

Most people think of Iraq when thinking of Mesopotamia. Mesopotamia is actually the ancient name for the region between the Tigris and Euphrates Rivers in the Middle East. Today, this region includes Iraq, southeastern Turkey, and eastern Syria.
  1. Eastern Syria

    • The average annual temperature in Eastern Syria is 64 degrees Fahrenheit (F). In summer, the desert region of Syria has average daytime temperatures of 104 F. Nighttime temperatures are often above 80 F. In winter, the average temperature is 45 F.

    Iraq

    • In summer, Iraq has average daytime temperatures of 100 F. Nighttime temperatures are often above 80 F. In winter, the average daytime temperature is 60 to 70 F, with nighttime temperatures around 40 F.

    Turkey

    • In Turkey, January temperatures average 43 F at night and 59 F during the day. In July, nighttime temperatures average 77 F, while the daytime average is 97 F.
