The Average Temperature in Portland, Oregon

Named the number one place for summer travel in the June 2010 issue of "Travel and Leisure," Portland, Oregon is located in the northwestern United States between the Pacific Ocean and the Cascade Mountain Range.
  1. Temperature

    • Portland's weather is typically mild, and extreme temperatures are uncommon. During the spring, the average temperature in Portland is around 60 degrees. Summer temperatures normally remain around 80 degrees. However, June and July may bring a couple of days with temperatures of 100 degrees. Fall temperatures range from 60 to 50 degrees. During the winter, the average temperature is around 50 degrees. It is rare for the temperature to drop below freezing in Portland.

    Rain

    • Although located in an area known for rain, Portland's average rainfall of approximately 36 inches per year is actually less than Atlanta, Georgia; Houston, Texas; and Seattle, Washington. The majority of Portland's rain occurs during the winter months.

    Geography

    • Portland has several different kinds of geography. National forests, the Cascade Mountain Range, Pacific beaches and the Oregon high desert are all within a two-hour drive from Portland.
