How to Locate World Jungles

You can find the world's jungles throughout the tropics, the region located around the equator between the Tropic of Capricorn and the Tropic of Cancer. Four continents--South America, Asia, Africa and Australia--have jungles, and so do Central America and many islands in the South Pacific. According to "Jungle Safari: Locating a Tropical Rainforest" on caribbeanedu.com, jungles grow over about 7 percent of the world.

Instructions

  1. Finding the World's Jungles

    • 1

Find the tropics, the 3,000-mile area between the Tropics of Capricorn (23.5-degree latitude north) and Cancer (23.5-degree latitude south).

    • 2

Locate areas of abundant vegetation with high rainfall within the tropics.

    • 3

Look for the four layers that "Jungle Safari: Locating a Tropical Rainforest" notes are characteristic of jungles: the emergent, which is the highest growth that reaches the sunlight; the canopy of thick growth that provides food and shelter for many animals; the humid, shady understory; and the forest floor, covered with decaying organic matter.
