Gleadless Townend is a suburb and electoral ward in the City of Sheffield, South Yorkshire, England. It is located approximately 4 miles (6 km) north-east of the city centre. The population of the ward at the 2011 Census was 19,124.

History of Gleadless Towned
The name Gleadless is derived from the Old English words 'glead', meaning kite, and 'leys', meaning meadow or clearing. The area was originally a farming community, and was first mentioned in the Domesday Book of 1086. In the 18th century, Gleadless Townend became a centre for the manufacture of cutlery and other metal goods, and by the 19th century it had become a thriving industrial suburb of Sheffield.
