Globus South American Tours

Founded by Antonio Mantegazza in 1928, Globus started with a single rowboat and has since expanded into a network of 32 offices based around the world. Today Globus provides escorted and independent travel packages, which range in duration from week-long excursions to month-long odysseys. Such packages typically include most meals, travel between destinations and guest accommodation. While the company offers tours to a range of countries and locales, South America's warm, southern climate and bustling cities make it a popular Globus destination.
  1. South American Escape

    • Erected in 1931, Rio's 120-foot-tall Christ the Redeemer statue is now one of the new Seven Wonders of the World.

This eight-day tour provides an in-depth look at two of South America's most popular cities: Rio de Janeiro and Buenos Aires. The trip begins with a tour of Rio along both the Ipanema and Copacabana beaches. Guests take a cable to the top of Sugar Loaf Mountain, ascend the 2,300-foot-tall Corcovado Mountain via a cog railway, and visit Tijuca National Park and historic Petropolis. Tourists then fly to Iguassu Falls on day four to view its two-mile-wide torrential downpour, after which they fly to Buenos Aires. Sights include the Metropolitan Cathedral and St. Martin's Mausoleum, the burial site of Eva Peron, and the President's Pink House. Travelers may extend the trip by adding either the Amazon and/or Peru extension.

    South American Sampler

    • Begun in 1060, the Santiago de Compostela Cathedral was completed in 1211.

The 12-day South American Sampler tour begins with a four-day stay in Rio, followed by a tour of the Argentine side of the Iguassu Falls. Three days are dedicated to touring Buenos Aires, which is touted as the "Paris of South America." There guests partake in a walking tour of both La Boca, the city's first port, and the artist neighborhood of San Telmo. The trip continues in Santiago, Chile's capital. Tourists are guided through Santiago's 16th-century architecture, the government palace of La Moneda, the Pre-Colombian Art Museum and Plaza de Armas, home to the Santiago de Compostela Cathedral. A Peru and/or Amazon extension is also available for this tour.

    South American Odyssey

    • The Osomo Volcano, located in Chile's Lake District, soars 8,730 feet above sea level.

Touring Brazil, Argentina and Chile, the 16-day South American Odyssey includes stays in Rio, Iguassu Falls, Buenos Aires, Bariloche and Santiago. A visit to the Rio de Janeiro Botanical Garden, chairlift ride to a lookout point at Cerro Campanario, a boat cruise across Lago Nahuel Huapi to Puerto Blest and a catamaran ride down Lago Todos los Santos are just a handful of the trip's highlights. This tour includes three independent-travel days and may be coupled with Peru and/or Amazon extensions.

    Legacy of the Incas

    • Nestled on a hilltop between the Andean Mountain Range, Machu Picchu was discovered in 1911.

Beginning in Lima, the 10-day Legacy of the Incas tour spans some of Peru's most historic locations. Guests tour the 17th-century cloister murals of the San Francisco Monastery, as well as the town of Ica, the country's wine capital. A plane ride over the mysterious Nazca Lines -- a group of animal drawings and geometric patterns etched in soil -- and cruise to the Ballestas Islands are included, as are tours of the Santo Domingo Monastary and The Lost City of the Incas, Machu Picchu. Guests may add the Galápagos Islands or Amazon extension to this tour.
