What is the city on peninsula across Hong Kong island?

The city on the peninsula across Hong Kong Island is Kowloon. Kowloon is located on the mainland of China, directly north of Hong Kong Island. It was formerly a British colony, but it was handed over to China in 1997. Kowloon is now part of the Kowloon City District of Hong Kong.
