How did Palm Beach get its name?

Palm Beach got its name from the abundant palm trees that line its shores. The area was first settled by Native Americans, who called it "Paniayan." In the 1800s, wealthy northerners began to winter in Palm Beach, and the town quickly became a popular resort destination. The name "Palm Beach" was officially adopted in 1885.
