Taiwan's official constitutional name is the Republic of China (ROC). The People's Republic of China (PRC) claims Taiwan and pressures international bodies to use "Chinese Taipei" to avoid recognizing Taiwanese sovereignty. This designation is used in the Olympics, APEC, and some other organizations. However, Taiwan's government and many countries continue to use "Taiwan" or "Republic of China" in bilateral relations.
