Who colonized Hong Kongo?

Hong Kong was a British colony from 1842 to 1997. The British acquired Hong Kong Island after the First Opium War, and Kowloon Peninsula was ceded to Britain in 1860 after the Second Opium War. In 1898, Britain obtained a 99-year lease of the New Territories from China. Hong Kong was returned to China in 1997.
