Log Cabins in Dunoon, Scotland

The popular seaside town of Dunoon in Scotland is surrounded by forest and has become a popular destination to build log cabins. Scotland's wet and often cold climate is far from ideal for campers, so log cabins are a popular alternative, providing year-round shelter, whilst allowing the visitor to spend time close to nature.
  1. Log cabin locations

    • Log cabins have been built on the shores of two of the local lakes or lochs, Loch Eck and the Holy Loch on the outskirts of Dunoon. There are also log cabin parks along the shores of the Scottish coastline, the Firth of Clyde. There are several cabin parks in the Argyll Forest, within easy reach of the town. Despite being near the seaside resort the cabin parks are situated deep in the forest so visitors can experience red squirrels, deer and other Scottish wildlife on the doorstep. Chase the WIld Goose Holidays has log cabins for rent in the heart of Argyll Forest.

    Buying a log cabin

    • Most of the parks in and around Dunoon offer some of their cabins for sale so people can use them whenever they like. Some parks sell their cabins but rent them out on behalf of the owners, taking a percentage of the rental revenue. Cabins cost around £30,000 and the parks management can offer finance packages to help people buy their own cabins. While owners can use the cabins as often as they like, they are not allowed by British law to live in them. Some cabins are built with better insulation than others so some may not be suitable for use in the winter. Owners will have to pay maintenance charges and ground rent to the park management.
