Many of Jane Austen's books were set in East Devon, while The Brontê sisters were born and raised in Haworth, Yorkshire. H.G. Wells made London his home towards the end of his life. Agatha Christie, born in Torquay, frequented South Devon to write her novels. Finally, Sir Arthur Conan Doyle's famous "The Hound of Baskervilles" took place in South Devon.
Plan which areas you want to visit. London is a logical start location not just because of the many writers who lived and worked there, but also because of its major airports. You should plan your trip in a circular pattern so that you start and finish in London, minimizing air fare.
