How to Find the Best Place to Live in Britain

Every year a new survey will appear in the newspapers announcing this year's winner of the best place to live in Britain, and it seems to change every year. The best place to live in Britain usually comes about from guidelines mainly based on rising house prices, employment figures, local amenities and quality of life.

The points system: To find the best place to live in Britain you could go through every town and city and award it a point based on the guidelines. This would take far too long so instead get all your research from surveys already taken by property sellers. But of course these will mainly be based on rising house prices in certain areas, and the higher the purchase price the more the sellers can take a cut. These surveys may be a little biased to say the least.

The five p's: This is another set of guidelines given by estate agents relating to the basic requirements needed to make an area worth living in. The five p's are pubs, primary schools, public transport, parish church and post office. A few of these p's sound a bit dated, but then estate agents are a traditional bunch unless it comes to money, where they suddenly know every new trick in the book.

It's all relative: How you find the best place to live in Britain may be very personal to you and everyone is different. Some people like to live in the countryside and some would not dream of moving from the city. Things like employment factors should be high on the list but if you work from home via the Internet then this again would not be a factor.

London is best: This is a cry heard from every teenager who lives in the suburbs and has glimpsed a view of exciting London life through television or trips. There is no doubt that big cities are exciting, but would you want to live there permanently? The amenities are fantastic but then stack them up against crime rates and house prices and it may not be ideal. Living in the centre of a city has always usually meant paying more for accommodation and tax.
