UK vs. Russia Population Density: UK Is Far Denser
The statement in the question is backwards. The United Kingdom has a vastly higher population density than Russia.
Numbers (Approx. 2023)
| Country | Population | Land Area (km²) | Density (people/km²) |
|---|
| United Kingdom | 67.7M | 242,495 | ~279 |
| Russia | 144M | 17,098,246 | ~8.4 |
Why the Massive Difference?
- UK: Small, temperate island; fully habitable; centuries of intensive agriculture/urbanization; no vast wilderness.
- Russia: World's largest country; ~70% Siberia/Far East — permafrost, taiga, tundra, mountains — extremely low carrying capacity. Population concentrated in European Russia (west of Urals, ~23% of land, ~75% of people).
UK density is ~33x Russia's. Even European Russia alone (~27/km²) is 10x less dense than UK.
