What was Britain called before it Britain?
The name "Britain" is derived from the Brittonic word "بريتانيا" (Pritanī), which was first used in the 4th century BC by the ancient Greek explorer Pytheas. The name was later adopted by the Romans, who called the island Britannia. Before the Romans, Britain was known by various names, including Albion and Ivernia.
