What conditions did the British expect Zionists to meet?

The Balfour Declaration was issued in 1917 and set out the British government's support for the establishment of a Jewish homeland in Palestine.

The British government expected Zionists to meet the following conditions:

- The establishment of a Jewish homeland in Palestine would not prejudice the civil and religious rights of existing non-Jewish communities.

- The Jewish homeland would be subject to the overall authority of the British government.

- The British government would be responsible for the administration of Palestine, including the protection of the rights of all its inhabitants.

- The Jewish homeland would be established in such a way as to ensure that the existing Arab population of Palestine would not be displaced.

- The British government would not allow mass Jewish immigration to Palestine without the consent of the Arab population.
