How long has the nation England existed?
England, as a unified political entity, can trace its origins back to the 10th century. King Æthelstan, who ruled from 924 to 939, is often regarded as the first King of all the English, and his reign marked the beginning of a continuous English state. However, the political landscape of the British Isles was complex, and the borders and control of England varied over time. The modern concept of England as a constituent country of the United Kingdom emerged much later, after the Acts of Union between England and Scotland in 1707 and between Great Britain and Ireland in 1801.
