How many asylum seekers in the UK?

According to the latest data published by the Home Office in the United Kingdom, there were a total of 48,540 asylum applications made in the year ending March 2022. Of these, 28,525 were initial applications and 20,015 were subsequent applications. The vast majority of asylum applications were made by people from Iran (15,067), Afghanistan (9,953), Iraq (4,993), Eritrea (4,293), and Syria (3,573).
