    • 1

Fly to Delhi, India. Preflight, apply for a tourist visa with the nearest Indian embassy, get vaccinations as advised by your physician, and then book an airplane ticket and fly to Indira Gandhi International Airport in Delhi. Airlines that serve India include the Indian airlines, Jet Airways and Indian Airlines; and international airlines Virgin Atlantic and Emirates Airlines. Spend the night at a hotel in Delhi and recover from the jet lag. You can reach the village where the Valley of Flowers is located only from May to September. Snow covers the village and the surrounding valley from October to April.

    • 2

From Indira Gandhi International Airport in Delhi, fly to Jolly Grant Airport in Dehradun, the provisional capital of the state of Uttarakhand. Kingfisher Airlines, Air India and Jet Airways operate daily flights to Dehradun. Spend the night at a hotel in Dehradun.

    • 3

Travel to Joshimath: Take a bus or a taxi from the center of Dehradun to the town of Joshimath 302 kilometers (187 miles) away. Be sure to leave early in the morning, as travel at night on the mountain roads can be dangerous.

    • 4

Travel to Govindghat: Rent a car or hire a driver in Joshimath to drive you to the town of Govindghat (21 kilometers, or 13 miles, away), where it is common to see Sikhs en route to a nearby pilgrimage site. In Govindghat, you can hire a trail guide as well as porters who will carry your luggage to the next point. Guides and porters will most likely find you first and offer their services.

    • 5

Trek to Ghangaria: The only way to reach the village of Ghangaria from Govindghat is to travel the 14 kilometers (8.6 miles) on foot via a steep, rocky mountain path, which takes from four to eight hours depending on your speed and fitness.

    • 6

Trek 3 kilometers (almost 2 miles) from Ghangaria to the entrance of the Valley of Flowers and pay for park admission. The Valley of Flowers National Park charges an admission fee; there are separate rates for citizens of India and citizens of other countries.
