How to Spend a Day Along the Delaware River Valley

      Begin your journey in Milford, New Jersey at the Lovin' Oven. Order some homemade potato pancakes. Lather 'em up with sour cream and apple sauce, and you're in for a one-of-a-kind experience. Take a stroll along the riverbank, feed the mallard ducks that gather beneath the bridge, or enjoy a cup of java and people-watch on one of the many town benches.

      Head south along the river on Highway 519. The town of Frenchtown lies just a few miles south of Milford. A popular activity is to go river tubing from Milford to Frenchtown. If you have a few hours to spare, tubing is a fun way to experience the Valley by water. Consider fishing for carp, trout, and bass in the Delaware River. Need a bit of pampering?       Wind along through the town and go south on Route 29 toward Stockton. Famous for the three-hundred-year-old Stockton Inn, which was the inspiration for Richard Roger's Broadway song, "There's a Small Hotel." The wishing well is still in the back of the inn, beside the garden terrace.

      Continue south on Route 29. Capture river and nature photographs along your journey. There are several pull-off areas for walking, jogging and biking along the river.

      Continue heading south on Route 29 until you come to the town of Lambertville. Walking the shops of Lambertville and New Hope will take several hours. There are quaint local shops, ice cream parlors, tasty cafes, country benches, and river vistas to experience. Check out The People's Store, a popular spot for interesting antiques and collectibles.       Take Route 29 north back to Milford. Stop and have a cocktail or coffee at The Ship Inn, a local hotspot and brewery in a 1860's Victorian building.
