Why is Halifax in UK not a city?

Halifax is actually located in England, United Kingdom and has city status. It was designated as a city on 25th August 1937 to commemorate the coronation of King George VI who ascended to the throne following the abdication of his brother, King Edward VII. Halifax remains a city to this day.
