Did the "British Invasion" Affect the United Kingdom?

The term "British Invasion" refers to the 1960s cultural phenomenon when British rock/pop bands (Beatles, Stones, Who, Kinks, etc.) dominated American charts and culture. It did not affect the UK in the sense of an invasion; rather, it was a British export that transformed the U.S. music scene. In the UK, it reflected a vibrant domestic youth culture (Merseybeat, Swinging London) that then went global. The UK was the source, not the target.
