Tallahassee: Florida's Capital and Its Name Origin

The capital of Florida is Tallahassee. Its name comes from the Muskogean phrase Talwa Hassi, meaning "old town" or "old fields." The name was first recorded in 1824 when the area was designated the territorial capital.
