USPS in Lagos? No—United States Postal Service Is Domestic Only
No USPS post offices exist in Lagos, Nigeria—or any foreign country. The United States Postal Service is a U.S. federal agency operating exclusively within:
- 50 states + District of Columbia
- U.S. territories (Puerto Rico, Guam, USVI, American Samoa, N. Mariana Islands)
- Military/diplomatic addresses (APO/FPO/DPO) — these are U.S. addresses served by USPS via military/diplomatic transport
- Freely Associated States (Marshall Islands, Micronesia, Palau) — under Compact of Free Association
Mailing to/from Lagos
For Nigeria, use:
- International carriers: DHL, FedEx, UPS — door-to-door, 2–5 business days
- USPS International: From U.S. only — First-Class Package Intl, Priority Mail Intl, Global Forever stamps
- Nigerian Postal Service (NIPOST): Domestic Nigeria mail; international via UPU agreements
Common Confusion
"USPS Lagos" sometimes appears in scam communications (fake shipping notifications, advance-fee fraud). No USPS facility exists in Lagos. Any claim otherwise is fraudulent.
For U.S. Embassy/Consulate services in Nigeria: Abuja (Embassy) and Lagos (Consulate General) — but these are diplomatic missions, not post offices.
