What is the national savings of United States?
The national saving of the United States is the difference between the country's Gross National Product (GNP) and its Gross National Consumption (GNC). GNP includes all income earned by Americans, whether in the United States or abroad, while GNC includes all spending on goods and services, whether produced in the United States or abroad. Therefore, national saving can be calculated as:
- GNP - GNC = Net National Saving.
If the Net National Saving is positive, the country is considered to be saving and investing more than it is spending. On the other hand, a negative Net National Saving indicates that the country is spending more than it earns, and hence is considered to be borrowing.
