The Rosebud Sioux Tribe is a Native American tribe that calls Rosebud, South Dakota home. Rosebud lies within a sprawling reservation that shares the city’s name. However, in the original language, the area actually goes by “Sicangua Lakota Oyate,” which means “Burnt Thigh People.” The Burnt Thigh People roamed the South Dakota plains for centuries, living and hunting. That tribe continues to live in the same land today, on the Rosebud reservation. Travelers to Rosebud will find plenty to explore on and around the reservation and can find lodging in nearby cities.
