Which States Border Kansas?
Kansas, the geographic center of the contiguous United States, is a classic rectangular Great Plains state bordered by four neighbors:
- North: Nebraska – The 40th parallel north forms the entire northern boundary.
- East: Missouri – The Missouri River defines the northeastern corner; the rest is a straight survey line.
- South: Oklahoma – The 37th parallel north forms the southern border (established 1854 Kansas-Nebraska Act / 1861 statehood).
- West: Colorado – The 25th meridian west from Washington (approx. 102°03′ W) marks the western edge.
Kansas does not touch any other states. Its capital, Topeka, lies in the northeast; its largest city, Wichita, in the south-central region.
