Remove the second and third row seats as needed for space, then measure your living space. Plan for a sleeping area as well as storage space.
Purchase an air mattress, foam mattress or other cushion material to lay on the bed of your Suburban. Sleeping bags are another alternative to mattresses. You also need blankets and pillows.
Fill a box, plastic bin or crate with utility items such as bags, tape, tools, shovels, dishes, rope, nonperishable foods, pots and pans, and extra clothing. You can also use your Suburban's other storage areas such as the glove box, cargo boxes and other compartments.
Use a backpack for on-the-go and important day-to-day items such as water bottle, phone, knife, radio, first-aid kit, compass, mirror, sewing kit, notebook, pencil, flashlight and lighter or matches. Pack a toiletry bag with shampoo, soap, razors, deodorant, toothbrush, toothpaste, hairbrush and comb.
Store food and drinks in a cooler or ice chest. Any other large items, such as water jugs, chairs, collapsing tents or firewood, should go wherever there is extra space.
Purchase camping accessories for your trailer hitch, such as a portable toilet, shower, chairs or tents. See Resource section for links.
