How to Use Vans to Transport Students

Schools, universities and other institutions often transport students from one place to another by using vans. Vans are generally extremely cheap to rent in comparison to buses, and also are safer than having students provide their own transportation to the destination and back.

Things You'll Need

  • One driver per van (two are preferred)
  • Signed permission or waiver slips from each student

Instructions

    • 1

Determine how many students will travel on the vans. Depending on the amount, you may need to use more than one van to transport your students.

    • 2

Rent the vans from a rental company. When renting the vans, ask for supplemental insurance in the event of an accident. Note that some universities may provide their own insurance plans for their drivers if they are employees of the universities.

    • 3

Make sure that each student has signed a waiver or any other forms required by the university or other institution. Collect the forms before driving them on the vans.

    • 4

Have the students board the vans. You may want to set up a seating chart for younger students. Be sure to leave room for any luggage that students take.

    • 5

Follow the rules of the road when driving. Always make sure everyone wears a seat belt, that the headlights are always on at night, and that turns are made in a safe manner.

    • 6

Return the vans to the rental agency after you have finished using them. Follow any rental procedures required by the agency.
