Obtain the proper licensing and training to operate a passenger van. Many states require you have your Commercial Driver's License to operate a larger vehicle, so check with the Department of Motor Vehicles in your state to make sure you have the proper license and training.
Equip your van with the proper safety equipment. If you plan to transport schoolchildren in your passenger van, you will have to abide by special safety rules dictated by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. If you are transporting commercial passengers, you may need to have special equipment to operate the van.
Fill the passenger with gas, or make sure you have plenty of fuel to get you back and forth from your destination.
Check tire pressure. Tire pressure is especially important for passenger vans; according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, inadequate tire pressure can be the leading cause of fatal rollover crashes. Add air to tires if they are below their manufacturer's specifications.
Buckle your seatbelt. Ensure all passengers have one to use, and use them.
