How to Transport a Canoe in an RV

Canoeing and kayaking are two outdoor activities that go well with vacationing in the wilderness. Driving an RV to your destination can be a fun experience, as well as providing you with the comforts of home while enjoying the great outdoors. The RV was designed for long-distance travel and comfort, and for carrying multiple items to your destination. Transporting outdoor equipment in an RV is quite simple these days with storage compartments and mounted rack systems for carrying equipment such as canoes. Securing a canoe to an RV is a simple process.

Instructions

    • 1

Locate a flat area on the top of your RV with nothing obstructing the length of the canoe. Place the canoe on top of the RV. You can purchase a canoe or kayak rack for the top of your RV if your desire for easier mounting.

Locate the tie-down knobs or cleats on the sides of your RV for tying equipment. Tie a durable nylon rope securely onto the cleat.

Run the rope to the top of the RV and wrap it through the rear canoe seat bar. Run the rope down the other side of the RV and tie it securely into place on a cleat.

Repeat this process for the front canoe seat bar and then tie another rope over the top of the canoe for added security.
